Rastro [Trace] is a photobook that takes as its starting point an encounter with the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon in Teotihuacán, Mexico, built centuries ago by the Indigenous peoples of the region. This encounter prompted a reflection on the paradoxical condition of human existence: simultaneously small and grandiose. The book investigates the marks left by human intervention and labor over time, establishing parallels between these traces and our capacity to transform the world. Through analog photographs taken during a trip to Mexico in 2023, Rastro unfolds a reflection on permanence, intervention and memory, revealing how every human action leaves traces that extend beyond its own time. The publication was produced and edited by the artist Wel Soares (Santa Luzia, Brazil, 1996) between January and February 2025.
A copy of Rastro is available for consultation at the library of Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS), São Paulo, Brazil.
